When you soldering the bottom pad, this IR LED will be top view SMD LED. And if you use the side pad, then this 850nm LED will emits the light from the side of PCB board. Gold wire, high quality epoxy and LED frame, stable chip all this material will get this Side View LED a longer life for your project.
