What is through hole LED (Or DIP LED)?

When it comes what kinds of LED you need for application, there will have two choice: SMD LED and through-hole LED(DIP LED). As we know, we name all this as LED, which is Light Emitting Diode. Light is for the "L", Emitting is for the "E". We can easy to tell why it will be these two letter(this little things will emits light). What's "D" for? It's called diode because we name the electronic parts only wor in "one direction" like one conntect goes to anode and other one goes with cathode.

Through-hole LED

Compare with those IC things. LEDs are most easy one in the LED circuit. We name those have pins on the bottom of lens's LED as Through-hole LED or dip led(dual in line package).

The structure of through hole LED is mainly composed of bracket, silver glue, gold wire and epoxy ect. There are the "anatomy" picture as follow:

1. Function of bracket: used to conduct electricity and support the whole Through-hole LED(like Red Through-Hole LED, Green Through-hole LED, blue throguh-hole LED, 940nm Through-hold IR LED , 850nm Through-Hole IR LED ect.)

2. Composition of support: the support is formed by electroplating of the support material, consisting of five layers of material, copper, nickel, copper and silver from inside to outside.

3. Type of bracket: the bracket with cup is used for concentrating type, and the flat head bracket is used for large angle astigmatism type lamp.

1. Function of silver glue: the function of fixing wafer and conducting electricity.

2. The main components of silver glue: 75-80% silver powder, 10-15% epoxy resin and 5-10% additive.

3. Use of silver glue: refrigerate, defrost before use and mix well, because silver powder will precipitate after a long time, if not evenly stirred, the performance of silver glue will be affected.
