Ultraviolet sterilization is effective against any bacteria or virus, and concentrated high-intensity ultraviolet rays can be sterilized in a short time.
Ultraviolet rays can kill bacteria, viruses, fungi, spores, chlamydia, etc. Viruses can also be inactivated by ultraviolet rays. Their resistance is lower than that of bacterial spores, but they are often more resistant than non-spores. Certain viruses such as polio, rabies virus, and influenza virus are also sensitive to ultraviolet light. Ultraviolet light sterilization is not the shorter the wavelength, the better. Its sterilization is because cells have a law of absorption of light waves and have the maximum absorption of specific wavelengths of ultraviolet rays. The absorbed ultraviolet rays actually act on the genetic material of the cell, which is DNA It plays a kind of actinic effect. The energy of ultraviolet photons is absorbed by base pairs in DNA, causing genetic material to mutate, causing bacteria to die immediately or unable to reproduce offspring, achieving the purpose of sterilization. Generally speaking, deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), ribonucleic acid (RNA) and nucleoprotein in bacteria have the strongest ultraviolet absorption peak at 254~257nm, so ultraviolet light with a wavelength of about 270nm has a better sterilization effect.

1. UVA: The wavelength is 320-395nm, also known as long-wave black spot effect ultraviolet rays. It has strong penetrating power and can penetrate most transparent glass and plastics. More than 98% of the long-wave ultraviolet contained in sunlight can penetrate the ozone layer and clouds to reach the surface of the earth.

2, UVB wavelength is 280-320nm, also known as medium wave erythema effect ultraviolet. Medium penetration, its shorter wavelength part will be absorbed by the transparent glass, most of the medium-wave ultraviolet contained in sunlight is absorbed by the ozone layer, and only less than 2% can reach the surface of the earth, which is particularly strong in summer and afternoon.

3, UVC wavelength is below 280nm, also known as short-wave sterilization ultraviolet. Its penetrating ability is weak, unable to penetrate most of transparent glass and plastic. The short-wave ultraviolet rays contained in sunlight are almost completely absorbed by the ozone layer. Short-wave ultraviolet rays are very harmful to the human body. Short-term exposure can burn the skin, and long-term or high-intensity exposure can also cause skin cancer. UV high-pressure mercury lamps and ultraviolet germicidal lamps emit UVC short-wave ultraviolet rays.
