    People might wondering why we recommended that using the blue LED or green LED with 12*12 mil LED chip under 20mA current, using the Yellow LED, red led or Amber LED with 12*12 mil LED chip under 30mA. However, for the IR LED with 12*12 mil LED chip, we recommended using it under 60mA and for 0.4W 850nm LED, the current even can reach 120mA.

    Here is the answer:

    The material of the LED chip is different! Different material will make the LED can handle different current. IR LED was made by ALGaAs infrared chip. 

    The test current for the LED chip by Tyntek factory is 150mA and the luminous decay is within 10% after aging 1000 hours. Which means these 850nm 5mm LED will got a perfect performance for your products!
