Usually you see a beam of light, it is not a single wavelength of light, it is composed of a combination of many wavelengths. The energy of the wavelength of light is larger than that of other wavelengths, then this wavelength is the peak wavelength of the beam. The wavelength distribution of each wavelength of light in this beam is not necessarily symmetrical with the boundary of lambda λp.
